PROGRAM HISTORY

In the Fall of 2011, Mingo Central High School opened on a mountain top in Mingo County, West Virginia. The school consolidated the former, Burch, Gilbert, Matewan and Williamson High Schools. Nicknamed "The Miners", the team prides itself in representing not just one area but an entire state's legacy of hard working coal miners. MCHS is a proud member of the Cardinal Conference, an elite group of Class "AA" schools in West Virginia. Additionally, Mingo Central is classified by the WVSSAC as a Class "AA" School with just under 700 Students for the 2016-2020 school term.
